Embark LBA2

Airline Passenger Boarding Application

Introduction and Overview

Newsflash! Embark LBA2 - A New Dimension In Boarding

Embark LBA2 – the latest version of Damarel’s Boarding Application has a new name and exciting new functionality, including support for 2D bar coded boarding passes.

Along with a new name, Embark LBA2 also includes new features to enable it to continue delivering the solutions our customers need.

Embark LBA2 speeds the aircraft boarding process

The use of ATB2 and 2D bar code technology in the airline passenger boarding process significantly cuts the time to board the aircraft. No more manual coupon counts, no more manual revenue protection checks, no more manual registration of passengers.

The system reads the magnetic strip on the back of the ATB2 coupon  or the 2D bar code on the front recording the passenger name, verifying that details including Flight Number, Departure Date and Seat are correct against the downloaded host list and indicating to gate staff authority to board.

In practice, use of automatic boarding techniques has been shown to cut the time to board a fully loaded 747 from 40 minutes to 15 minutes.

This dramatic reduction in boarding time means that:

  • Passengers can arrive at the Gate closer to the time of departure, improving services and providing revenue opportunities.
  • Occupancy of the gate area is reduced for a given flight, reducing the demand for staff and space resource over time.
  • Turnaround time is reduced, providing revenue and cost-reduction opportunities.

Embark/LBA2 improves passenger security and protects revenue

Automatic registration of boarded passengers is less prone to error than manual methods where it's easy to tick the wrong name on a list, misread a name or flight number on a boarding pass or forget to pull the flight coupon.

In the modern airport, the passenger carries all the required information in a machine-readable format on the ATB2 or 2D bar code coupon. Error detection and correction techniques ensure that an Electronic Boarding Gate Reader placed at the boarding gate can read this information with accuracy. This data is then checked to make sure that the passenger is boarding the correct flight. If the details are correct, the name is recorded against the checked-in data.

Functional Highlights

Enhanced Graphical Interface

The dynamic graphical interface makes Embark LBA2 even easier to use, with instant visual confirmation of passenger numbers expected and boarded.

On-screen audit trails show events, such as coupons being read, as they happen.

Gate Contact Messages

Embark LBA2 provides the facility for recording messages for passengers. As soon as the passengers coupon is read the gate reader display is updated to indicate that there is a message, and the message shown on the Embark LBA2 screen.

Host Reconciliation

For those that support it, Embark LBA2 sends reconciliation transactions back up line to keep the host system in step with the boarding process.

The status of boarding and missing passenger information is available continually throughout the process.

Offline boarding

For increased performance and resilience, Embark LBA2 stores passenger lists locally. This means that Embark LBA2 can still be used even if the host line is unavailable‚ saving vital time during host outages.

Embark LBA2 secures on-time performance

The costs involved in late departure of a flight can run into thousands of pounds per minute. The knock on effects in terms of lost ATC slots, inbound delays, passenger satisfaction and image are incalculable.

Damarel's Embark LBA2 system virtually eliminates delays introduced through the passenger boarding process.

The name list is held electronically at the gate, reducing dependency on remote communication. You always know that only authorised passengers are on the aircraft, who they are - and who is missing. This means that if baggage is to be removed, for a passenger that has not boarded, the tags to be located are quickly identified. The speed of the process is such that a more relaxed turnaround program can be set.
