Airport Services Limited (ASL) is an independent company providing a flexible service to over 150 carriers at several airports, including premium airlines like Lufthansa.

The ASL operation at Leipzig Airport had grown considerably, and ASL were acutely aware that the existing DCS was not suitable for a number of carriers they were supporting.  The weight and balance system that was in place was in need of an update too.

ASL needed a solution that would eliminate the problems they were experiencing, and allow them to provide a streamlined, quality service to their customers. Damarel offered a class-leading solution in the form of L-DCS (Local Departure Control System) and Lodestone.

The first of the 2 products installed, LodeStone, is an integrated, fully featured Weight and Balance system for passenger aircraft.  LodeStones automated processes provide loading crew and flight staff with invaluable, up to the minute information for accurate load planning, thereby providing a complete flight handling solution. 

LodeStone weight and balance fully integrates with Damarel's L-DCS product.  The real-time transfer of data between L-DCS and LodeStone ensures that the load sheet is always produced using the most up-to-date information from check-in. No manual re-keying is necessary, and all information is accurate and timely.  As a result load sheets can be produced far faster than was previously possible.  Allowing ASL to do away with time consuming manual processes, speed up operations and ultimately save time and money.

The second of the products, L-DCS, runs on the SITA CUTE platform offering peace of mind and ease of use.  As well as providing an invaluable emergency back-up service and reducing staff training time L-DCS significantly reduces passenger handling costs, whilst provides a class-leading package.
 
By storing all passenger information in a locally controlled database, L-DCS eliminates the need to connect to costly external DCS systems such as those operated by major airlines.  The use of modern technologies to process and register passengers quickly at check-in, and to collate this information in a simple and efficient manner at the boarding gate, ensures L-DCS provides a seamless system for passenger processing.

Along with processing all Low Cost Carrier and Charter passengers, another major benefit of L-DCS is as a standby system for when a main airline DCS fails. L-DCS enables the operator to carry on processing passengers, ensuring continuity. 

L-DCS is the most widely used, popular Local Departure Control System available, and its track record of tried and tested dependability speaks for itself. Uwe Stange, Deputy Station Manager, Airport Services Leipzig had this to say of the newly installed L-DCS / LodeStone system:
