Blackpool International, a thriving UK regional airport, chooses AuRA, L-DCS and LodeStone. Acting as a gateway for the Northwest, the airport serves over 25 UK & European destinations.

Like many regional airports around the world, Blackpool International has seen a dramatic increase in passenger figures in recent years, fuelled in part by the emergence of low cost carriers such as Jet2.com.

Managing this expansion whilst planning for the future presents its own unique problems, particularly when terminal space is both expensive and at a premium. Understanding this, Blackpool International had a clear vision of how I.T. systems could help them cope with the increasing passenger volume whilst providing first-class services.

With no existing computer systems in place, Blackpool International was in the ideal position of being able to look at implementing a complete, airport-wide solution, choosing a suite of products that would best fit their operation.

Working in partnership with Damarel, Blackpool International chose to install a network of Common Use equipment based on AuRA CUTE to replace the manual operation with a cost-effective, automated solution for passenger handling.

By adopting Damarel’s Local DCS (L-DCS) for passenger check-in and boarding, Blackpool International also chose one of the world’s most popular low-cost DCS packages. L-DCS provides advanced, simple to use check-in and boarding functionality that is ideally suited to the modern charter and low cost airline.

Blackpool International also took the decision to adopt the latest airport technology and practises:

• Full 2D bar coding. By implementing the latest standards, the expense of legacy-style magnetic stripe equipment and stock is removed.
• IATA Type B messages via email. By adopting this standard, the airport can now send and receive their IATA messages by email, saving costs on all of their traffic and providing a modern alternative distribution method.

For Weight and Balance, Blackpool International selected LodeStone, the companion product for L-DCS. LodeStone is a fully integrated W&B system, providing a simple to use, web-based interface to allow Load Controllers to quickly and accurately produce the necessary documentation.

With this suite of applications from Damarel, Blackpool International is ideally placed to maximise their potential in an increasingly busy and competitive market.
